Custom Computer Upgrades & Builds in Dallas, Texas
Computer Upgrades
When the performance of your computer becomes unreliable, “glitchy” or slow, you have more options beyond running to your nearest big-box store to purchase a new computer.
Sometimes, it makes more sense to upgrade a computer’s hardware (including internal and external parts) rather than invest in a whole new computer. Morgan Systems offers several options for hardware upgrades, such as solid-state drives, increased RAM (memory), and new power supplies, among others. With our computer upgrade services, we can help you upgrade your peripheral devices like wireless mice, keyboards, surge protectors, and monitors. For instance, we can get you set up with two or more monitors for increased multitasking. Many customers see this as a viable option. When the user is multitasking with many windows or files at once, upgraded memory can help your software perform faster. When a hard disk drive is upgraded to a high-performing solid-state drive, programs and applications can open, close, and run faster. Sometimes a power supply goes bad. When a good power supply is installed in a computer it acts as the electronic backbone, better stabilizing the entire system. A bad power supply, on the other hand, can mean glitching and freezing and other random unresponsiveness.
A slow computer does not necessarily mean you need to upgrade the hardware. There are still more factors to consider, such as viruses, Windows updates, unused programs, etc. And, not every computer is a good candidate for hardware upgrades. For a machine to be a good candidate for an upgrade, we recommend the computer be no more than 4 years old, or up to 6 years old if you have a custom-built computer (versus store-bought; we’ll talk more about custom computers below). Typically, a computer that will work well with an upgrade also has at least one above-average, high-performing component already—such as a Core i5 or i7 processor, for example—to support and be compatible with the added performance of an upgrade. If the computer is very old and/or the internal parts are in poor condition, a computer upgrade may not be worth your investment in the machine.
Our first step is to evaluate the computer’s current condition. Our technicians will diagnose why the machine is not responding well and determine its upgradability. We can then present the most sustainable options to you.
New Computers
Depending on how much you spent on your last computer, you may want to replace your computers after they are 3 to 8 years of age. Most times it seems the less money we put into a computer the faster we want to replace them because they are too slow or the age of the computer becomes more and more apparent—less responsive, takes forever to boot up and shut down, “quirky.” If you purchase a new computer and we install it, we can also migrate all of your personal files, pictures and internet shortcuts, as well as help you set up programs like Microsoft Office suite, antivirus, printer drivers, etc. Need help wiping and recycling your old computer? We can take care of that for you, too.
We recommend new surge protectors are put in place with each new machine as these protective devices also go bad, creating an unstable voltage to your system which can eventually lead to power supply and motherboard issues, and system failures.
Buying a new computer? Our team can help you decide which available computers offer the most bang for your back, today’s most reliable brands and specifications, and where to shop.
Pro-Tip: Today’s applications, including Windows operating systems, perform best with a solid-state drive (SSD), but many retail brands still sell computers with only a hard disk drive. A bigger hard disk drive will still not compare to the performance of an SSD. If your new computer lacks an SSD, it is likely you will be very unhappy with its speed and performance within weeks or months…or even right out of the box! Be sure any new computer you purchase has, at minimum, a 250GB SSD. A combination SSD + hard disk drive is also a viable option.
Custom Built Computers
Custom-built computers live longer than any other type of computer, including a Mac. Whereas a store-bought computer such as a Dell or HP may lose its performance after a few years (or sooner, depending on its internal specs), a custom computer will retain its performance much longer, often nearing a decade before there is any noticeable reduction in performance, including its reliability and speed. This is because every component of a custom machine has been hand-selected to be one of the best parts of its type available. Compare this to larger companies who often find ways to cut costs and make more money by using cheap power supplies, cheap motherboards, or cheap hard drives, all of which quickly prove their lack of endurance.
Morgan Systems has built nearly 200 custom computers since 2008. We are hardware experts, and we offer some of the best warranties in the business—but it’s rare for a warranty to ever be used since most of our custom-built computers last longer than 8 years. We build our machines with a minimum of these specs: 16 GB of memory, 1 TB solid-state or M.2 drive, a Core i7 processor, Corsair power supply and MSI motherboard. Over the years, we’ve identified the full spectrum of interior components made to last longer and perform better.
JNT Developers’ CEO, Jorge Abreu, came to us for a custom-built computer and was so happy with its performance and longevity, he trusted us to build a second computer four years later, this one with a 4-monitor display. Jorge said: “Jeremy built 2 PCs for me and both have been amazing! They run fast and I’ve never had any issues.”
Install Computers and Configure on Your Network
Any computer purchased from Morgan Systems can be installed and configured on your network. We can configure all backups for the machine to a USB device, an on-premise server, or an offsite location such as the cloud.
If your new computer connects to a business network, we can assist with mapping network drives, installing software like antivirus, scan drivers and Microsoft Office suite, and administering the proper licenses. We know at times this may seem like a daunting technical task. And because we know each and every network and client are different, we’ll work closely with your team to make sure your computers are set up to your liking before we leave your office, on time without any excuses. If necessary, we’ll connect your workstation to a server to make sure it is recognizable on the network.
Customers often ask, “Should I move to the cloud?” In case you’re wondering, we’ll never pressure you to move to the cloud. That said, we can give information about doing so if you have questions about the cloud, and we’re happy to provide feedback for appropriate network scenarios as your company grows and continues to adapt to the needs of your industry, clients, and workflow.
Our goal is to minimize potential downtime when replacing or configuring new computers, and to ensure you and your team are pleased with the setup. We realize your employees may need more tech support when a machine is replaced, that’s why our team is experienced with installing applications, moving data and tweaking settings to give employees and management a personalized feel. Let us make it a seamless transition for you and your team.
